Is It Time To Re-Visit Sustainability?
It can be daunting, trying to maintain compliance in an ever-changing regulatory world. Really, it is too large and onerous of a job for any one person to hope to maintain by themselves. New regulations are promulgated all the time and older regulations can be spotlighted at any moment. Support is needed in order to keep track of both old and new regulations as well as their affect on a facility. This is where August Mack and its Compliance Assurance Program (eCAP®) is of assistance.
The initial step of eCAP® is to complete a comprehensive environmental audit. There are numerous advantages to this audit. First and foremost, it provides a company with a summary that breaks down and describing which regulations apply to the audited facility. Without having comprehensive knowledge of what applies to a facility, it is nearly impossible to maintain compliance or implement a strong, thorough compliance program. Not only does the audit highlight regulations and regulatory programs applicable to a facility, it determines also the facility’s current compliance status.
eCAP® assists in developing a compliance plan. This plan is a custom-designed service based on the outcome of the audit. The foundation of eCAP® is the environmental base module which is designed to provide dynamic solutions to the facility’s environmental issues as they arise. This is accomplished by routine interaction between August Mack employees and facility personnel via regular site inspections. It is during these inspections August Mack gains a deeper understanding of the needs of specific facilities in order to obtain compliance.
Keeping up with changing regulations as well as being knowledgeable in older regulations that suddenly become a focus for regulatory bodies is difficult for even some of the best Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) professional. With a rich understanding of the processes at a facility due to regular interaction with plant personnel and EH&S regulatory compliance expertise, August Mack can quickly ascertain the applicability of regulations to a facility. Therefore, keeping the facility informed of regulatory program development, reassuring current and future compliance. For instance, in 2007, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mandated all facilities make a determination as to whether or not chemicals of interest (COI) were present above certain thresholds at facilities. Utilizing facility knowledge and the optional Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) eCAP® module, August Mack was able to determine applicability to the new DHS regulation for numerous facilities in a short period of time.
With so many regulations, it is becoming exceedingly difficult to feel confident in your facility’s compliance with all applicable standards. eCAP® gives you confidence in your regulatory program, allowing you to focus on your production efforts.
